Fighting the bullies

received an ignorant email, and have been for a while, from someone who perpetuates myths about people of color and politics. I wont publish what I got this morning, but it was the last straw. I responded because I had asked in the past to be removed from the list of his emails.

From Brian (in response):
Take me off your list, or I'll report you for harassment. I've asked you several times in the past, and I find the items you're sending out ignorant, uninformed, bigoted, racist, and downright mean.

God would be ashamed of you.

Their Response:
I'M VERY SORRY, BRIAN. THIS IS THE VERY FIRST MSG I'VE RECEIVED FROM YOU. I WILL TAKE YOU OFF MY ...ADDRESS BOOK. I AM SINCERELY SORRY

Moral:
Confront the bullies in your lives and fight for what's right! It's the only way things will ever change...

Nuff said!

And so it begins....

A song I've been working on in my head for probably over ten years was lyrically completed last night. A musical I've been writing in my thoughts since 1988 began it's journey to paper as a result. Beginnings. Endings. Everything in between. Not sure what to feel right now...

Don’t ask, don’t tell – and keep that closet door closed!!

John Everson is just your average guy-next-door - young, charismatic, intelligent – with a house, a son, and a significant other who is the love of his life. But this blue collar auto-worker, after losing his job of 17 years, is thrust into the limelight when he challenges two presidential candidates at an open-forum debate about the state of the country – and finds himself unwittingly running for President of the United States. The one small problem – John has a little secret that could bring his whole campaign crashing down – he’s a closeted gay man, and he intends on staying in the closet, no matter what.

Broom Street Theater proudly presents ‘Run, Faggot, Run’– a new political comedy of rainbow proportions from the makers of Flowers for Dubya and A Very Bitchy Christmas. RFR skewers the left, the right and everything in-between in this comic romp, and sends an assortment of lovably crazy characters through a whirlwind American election only to find that sometimes the truth is in there – and may need a little help finding its way back out of the closet.

‘Run, Faggot, Run’ playwright Brian Wild is the author of twelve original plays, including last year’s mega-hit, Dork Side of the Moon, and promises that RFR will be no exception to the rule of fun. The play features a cast of Broom Street regulars and newcomers, including Siobhan Edge, Kay Dixon, Terry Lane, Ethan Mutz, Cassi Harris, N’Dig0, Matt Kenyon, Greg Johnson, Deiven Swimm and Collin Erikson.

Run, Faggot, Run runs every Friday-Sunday, September 26-November 2 at Broom Street Theater, 1119 Williamson Street. Friday and Saturday performances are at 8:00 p.m. and Sunday performances are at 2:00 p.m. To make reservations or for more information about the play or the theater, call Broom Street Theater at (608) 244-8338 or go the theater’s website at www.broomstreet.org.

Not even the best of polls can predict who will come out on top when the race winds down, but find out yourself this election season by casting your vote for Run, Faggot, Run – opening September 26th, 2008 at Broom Street Theater at 1119 Williamson street in Madison, Wisconsin.

Public Service Announcement - Dry Drowning

Something to be aware of....

Boy’s death highlights a hidden danger: Dry drowning
10-year-old died more than an hour after getting out of swimming pool

By Mike Celizic - TODAYShow.com contributor
updated 8:58 a.m. CT, Thurs., June. 5, 2008

The tragic death of a South Carolina 10-year-old more than an hour after he had gone swimming has focused a spotlight on the little-known phenomenon called “dry drowning” — and warning signs that every parent should be aware of.

“I’ve never known a child could walk around, talk, speak and their lungs be filled with water,” Cassandra Jackson told NBC News in a story broadcast Thursday on TODAY.

On Sunday, Jackson had taken her son, Johnny, to a pool near their home in Goose Creek, S.C. It was the first time he’d ever gone swimming — and, tragically, it would be his last.

Shuckabee

Why is it public figures can never just say ‘I’m sorry for the inappropriate, offensive remark I made’ instead of parroting the slippery old standby ‘I’m sorry if anyone was offended by what I said?’

Mike Huckabee offered one of those apologetic non-apologies after what he apparently thought was a funny response to the sound of a collapsing chair as he spoke before an NRA audience. Quipping that the crash was Barack Obama diving to the floor to avoid being shot was an outrageous attempt at humor that was not only not funny but offensive and way over the line in terms of proper political and religious comportment.
